Wi-Fi calling

I realise this is not a current thread as such but this evening, I discovered that Tesco Mobile (virtual on O2) is now facilitating wifi calling. It didn't earlier in the year but I stumbled on it and turned it on. I have no idea whether it will be of benefit but time may tell.

Your iPhone has learned this behaviour, either by accident (likely) or a shortcut has been created. Check in Settings ▸ General ▸ Keyboards ▸ Text Replacement to see if there is a shortcut. Thanks James, Yes, all that you say is true, but I find that the only available option is to select 'Optimised Charging' ON or OFF. So I'll leave it on and maybe the phone will learn to finish earlier over time. Not important anyway, Many thanks, Lorimer

Why doesn't my watch unlock my Mac anymore?

My 6 sometimes fails to unlock my iMac but I press <esc> to sleep it again then tap shift to wake and it gets it that second time. Nothing to get me into a rage, and I can be brusque at times.

iCloud and Safari Reading List

I've never used the Reading List but I just added a page in Safari on my 2019 iPad Air, and closed the tab I'd just saved . I then quit Safari, relaunched, opened the RL and clicked the single item and it opened the page with no delay. You do "Save pages to read offline", don't you?

I really don't understand why you don't want to back up your iPhone. Because everything that is not in iCloud (photos, Drive, etc) is also on my iPad. The iPad gets around 10 hours a week use. The phone? Maybe 5 minutes.

:tu: I did check that, as I said, but I'm sure they don't always publicise these things so people would not necessarily know. I have experience of apps crashing but not core Apple ones.

For kids that age, the basic iPad is more than adequate. For teens or older I'd say go with the Air which is probably the best iPad for everyday use, but for youngsters either second hand Minis or the basic iPad.

the widget shows only the clock from 6 through to 12 (the left side of the clock) - the nighttime 'small hours' are not visible and that's what I need to see. Is there any way to widen a widget so I can see the whole clock face? Time to contact the developer!

I don't want to do it via a Mac - I've put music files on my iPad by uploading to iCloud on the Mac but again, this just dumps them in Files not Music. Unfortunately, if you want them in the Music app on iPad there is no choice but via Mac. It's a pain and you should be able to do it, but Apple...
