Apple always put that as they want everyone on the latest versions.

I do hope that that is correct.

Ringtones also gone. So I wonder how I am going to get ringtones I've created onto my iPhone in the future?

I wondered the same as I have a custom ringtone (old UK bell ring-ring). I hope iOS 11 does not cause them to vanish. Updates are full of tricks. I'll find out next week. I've lived with losing customised things before with both Apple and MS.

I did a search this morning on the ringtone issue and found the link below. It seems it should be possible. I'm not in a position to test it at this time, but here it is anyway.

I have 27.63 GB of apps in my iTunes Library. That may take a little while to download again on each device - if I wanted to install them all on my iPhone and iPad obviously.

This morning I set up my new iPhone via iTunes backup. It apparently transferred everything but the custom ringtones and fingerprints. I did get Waltr for this eventuality and used it to put the tones back. Only two. The pity is it only has 14 days use without paying. Now can't put any music on from my local MP3 stash via iTunes. I do not want to use iCloud to store 67GB of them so I can borrow them back. Options are adding duplicates to my Apple Music and downloading those or paying for Waltr 1 or 2. Not urgent, but a bugger nonetheless. I can see how Waltr could be worthwhile. I don't like paying in $ is the only snag, but I could get over it.

You will want Waltr 2 - not 1 - if you decide to purchase it.

Well yes. Wifi and all that. 1 did get stuck on one file but I just quit and tried again. Good enough.

"I don't like paying in $..." I paid a fraction of the cost for Waltr 2 - through .
I have paid a fraction of the cost of many apps through this service.
