That's it for the initial set up. You change things on the 'pod through the Home app.

I just tried it with the iPhone powered off to see if it was needed and it did the things I asked.

Not too fussed on 'hey Siri what's the news' as it goes to 5Live's podcast, which is a bit jingle and dumb for the youff - but then I'm old and more Radio 4 for news. I don't want the alternative news offerings. Still, it works, which is the main thing and I'll get used to it.

It doesn't seem to be able to play a single track. I asked for 'play track <title> by <artist>' which it does, but then carries on with the album at the next track. Maybe I am not getting the command right.

What did you ask it to do? Maybe my syntax was wrong. I soon found 'hey Siri stop' :D

I just say Hey Siri play and then say the song followed by the artist as far as I can remember.

Thanks. I'll have to see how it goes and try different stuff.

I've never tried Airplay from an iOS device (Airpods don't count for that statement) but a bit of searching found the 'how to'. It works. There must be loads more in iOS I've not needed so don't know. I set the Homepod for Network Only access.

--edit-- Airplay from the BBC Radio and Podcast apps :tu:

So far I'm quite impressed by it. The only problem I've had is taking it from one area to another which has a different WiFi. So not very 'portable'... But I use it to play from my radio app on my old iPhone 3GS and it plays from my playlists. I do subscribe to Apple Match now £21.99 but not Apple Music.

The microphone(s) In the Homepod are very sensitive compaired to any other device I have ever used. This means if you are talking to the Homepod version of Siri and would prefer your i phone Siri to stay quiet you just need to speak quieter. The fact that this speaker can pick out what I am saying even when the music is playing quite loud is really impressive.

The schoolboy in me smiled just a bit when I saw the headline/link on the BBC site.

"Apple's HomePod speakers leave white marks on wood"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43064772

I have a twisted mind.

My HomePod has so far only been used on a kitchen work surface of the plastic kind and was moved to glass a few days ago.

Siri is more than a bit crap at locations. When I ask for the weather, I get Swansea. If I ask for somewhere sensible, like Loughor (where I am) or Llanelli (more similar weather), it hasn't a clue. Pffft, I say. Pffft! :D

That's very strange. Siri always gives me the weather based on my nearest city, or the region I'm in.

Swansea is the nearest city. It is some seven miles away. However, it gets more rain than we do in Loughor so accuracy isn't that good. When I ask for 'Loughor' specifically, it tells me about Juneau, Alaska. When I ask for 'Llanelli', seven miles the other way, it does not know the place exists.

Weather accuracy within 7 miles is pretty good, I'd say!

There's a place called Llanelli?

Hell yeah that's a place. i worked there for over thirty tears. Well known for rugby. We have microclimates around here. During winter, you could be in sun and then hit heavy snow for a few miles and out again. Still no autoupdate on the OS (I checked in Home because I am curious that way). I know it is probably a month away for 11.3 but I'll probably get a second 'pod as a stereo pair, despite the weather :D

I was only joking! Of course I've heard of Llanelli...
