You will very often find that running versions of MacOS from an external HD is very very slow.

When you tried to restart from HS did you hold down the Alt key to get a choice of OS start disk? (I've never seen the prohibiton doing that, but perhaps it's a Mojave "innovation"?)

Never thought of doing that MB but seeing as no other drives were attached at that point I presumed it was trying to find my main HS drive. God forbid it happens again I'll try it out. BTW I have plucked up courage and attached the partitioned drive with Mojave on it. It powered up OK but didn't try to boot into Mojave. Powered it down and my MBP. This morning MBP powered up cleanly all is good.

Apple change the procedure of chosen startup disk from one OS to another. With Mavericks and Yosemite, one rebooted from your Mac's system whatever you'd last used, the other rebooted from the OS you'd last used, so if you'd disconnected the relevant drive you'd presumably get an error?

Something I've spotted with Mojave that didn't happen before - when I use Finder to browse to an external disk on a networked Mac or PC, it automatically puts a shortcut to that drive on my desktop. I have actually found it useful. The shortcut vanishes when I restart.

I'm waiting for someone to say "macOS/OSX always did that" to which I'd say "not on my Macs".

My version of Snow Leopard does that ... but it is the server version.

Somewhere between Mojave, iOS 12 and a new Watch, the ability to unlock my Mac with the Watch has gone.

I have tried with every update like 12.1 and 10.14.1 but no luck. Today I put WatchOS 5.1.1, retried, success. Tested. Fixed for now. I still can't log into https://www.icloud.com (can't connect to server), but small steps. I'll get them to call me when I cba.

Hi all, wow, that was the easiest update and install ever from HS to Mojave. Bit the bullet and installed seeing as it's on 10.14.1 now. Three quarters of an hour to install (already downloaded) then a couple of hours to do 10.14.1 update But the killer was ALL my apps WORKED nothing in the incompatable folder. EVERYTHING worked for the first time EVER in an update. From SpamSieve to Default Folder and even EarthDesk, yes in 10.14 you have to tell the system to access other apps like Safari extensions etc. but all work. Happy bunny, here. There seems to be lots of goodies to explore in the Tour Guide. Clip board works as I would have expected too.

I had to go into Software Update and check Software Updates twice. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to install.
