I have iCloud set up to sync my Contacts between my iPhone and my MBP, but there are some inconsistencies.

On the MBP, in the Contacts Sidebar, I have listed:

iCloud
All iCloud
Then Groups A to Z

On My Mac
All on My Mac
Groups A to Z

If, on the MBP, I click on All iCloud, and then create a New Card, this then appears in the appropriate Group and also on my iPhone.

If, on the MBP, I select a Group and create a New Card, this the appears in All iCloud and on my iPhone.

If I create a new Contact on my iPhone, it appears in the appropriate Group on my iPhone. It appears on the MBP under All iCloud, but not in the appropriate Group. If I want it in a Group, I have to do it manually.

Is this how it's supposed to work, or am I not understanding how it should work.

Secondly, why is there the On My Mac listings, why not just the iCloud lists, which are On My Mac anyway?

I am writing this from memory, so...
There is a setting somewhere (on the phone) which dictates where a contact added on the phone winds up on your Mac. You can change this.

I have set up a group on my Mac which "receives" any contact added to my phone. I can then manually move said contact, or not.

Is this helpful?

Thanks, Gail. That's a setting only for when syncing via iTunes, AFAIK.

Interesting. My iCloud Contacts are exactly as they are on my Mac (where I'm looking from). However I so rarely create a contact on the iPad that I don't know what would happen if I did.

There is no "All iCloud" group visible, not from the Mac anyway.
