I need to upgrade from snow leopard. Mavericks is (I think) the latest version is os that my machine can run, but it is no longer in the app store.

Any suggestions of a source ?

This is Split&Concat which will stitch the files together into a disk-image of Mavericks.
Open the zip and open S&C, https://we.tl/hx3N0o3vT0

File 1 https://we.tl/j9ZIk04y78

File 2 https://we.tl/OrQ5gq6hnW

File 3 https://we.tl/UkmYkQQiqK

Leave all three files on your desktop, now with S&C running double click on file 001 and and it will stitch all the files together and leave you with a disk-image of Mavericks

You need to be careful. I was able to install Mavericks on an external blank HD partition with no problems, but using the same image to install 'in place' over Snow Leopard was an absolute b*gger that caused me no end of problems. You might find you need to update Time Machine one last time, then wipe your HD and install Mav as new, then import from TM. Not the route I went down, but I did manage to get it installed in the end.

If I go to AppStore>Purchased, I can still download Mavericks. Can't you?

Not if you never downloaded (= "Purchased") it in the first place when it was current, Les.

It has been superseded for a long time by later OSs, if you didn't get it when it was current, Apple don't allow you to now.

@Defcom

Would it be possible to do for me what you did for Mike Smith? Only for me, it would be Sierra (10.12).
Thanking you in advance.

Thanks, but it doesn't. Your link is to the combo update. It isn't the original Sierra installer.
This is the same situation that Mike Smith encountered. The initial version of the OS is no longer available online.

And your link brings up a question. The information on the Apple page says that I would need to be running El Capitan in order to upgrade to Sierra. I have an iMac, and that is what that page indicates. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, then I also need the initial version installer for El Capitan!

@BDAqua
Again thanks, but this doesn't work for me. That download, if it's actually 10.11.0 is not for my computer. I have two, both running Yosemite. But I'm pretty sure that it is the update that is available. OK, I'm not sure.

I don't understand this, but that's what it says.

For my MacBook Pro, it seems that I can go directly from Yosemite to El Capitan. For my iMac, it seems not. This according to the info that I referenced in my earlier post. Again, I don't understand this.

Question:
All this seems to indicate that I cannot wipe my hd, and use these installers on a blank disk. That I need a previous OS installed. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks.
I might want to wipe the disk, partition it, and install Sierra on one partition.

@Defcom
Thanks a bunch. I'm downloading those files.
And could I ask the same for El Capitan? If you have it, and in case I do need it?

Wow! What a wonderful combination: Defcom, wetransfer, and Split&Concat. I've got the Sierra install.dmg.
Thanks.
