Well I have got all the required disk images for Maverick but cannot run it on my mac :|

I get the message copy the application to a writable Mac OS Extended formatted disc to continue.

I have done this with an external drive to no avail :(
Is that is, am I formally left behind ?

When you say you've got all the disk images - have you put the 3 segments together to form the installer application? And if you try running the installer application you get this message? That is a bit odd. You could make a standalone bootable installer on an external drive using Diskmaker X, but it shouldn't be necessary. It ought to be possible just to run it directly.

What Mac model are you trying this with? Is it one that can run Mavericks?

Unless I am misunderstanding your problem, which is always a possibility.

Hi Leewave, I was trying to make a bootable external hard drive. I did think my machine would be too old ! I didn't realise the installer would know that if I was installing onto an external disc.

It's a Mac pro 1.1 duel core Intel Xeon

The maximum OS for the Mac Pro 1,1 is Mac OS X 10.7.5 'Lion'

Unfortunately, it does know, as it uses the host Mac's firmware to do the install. I had the same problem trying install 10.6.3 from the last retail Apple DVD, and it wouldn't do it, as my machine came with 10.6.6 as the minimum. Apple eventually supplied me with a replacement 10.6.7 disk, so all was well in the end.

Hi Gail,

This is Split&Concat which will stitch the files together into a disk-image of Sierra.
Open the zip and open S&C, https://we.tl/zQzCuCfKBI

File 1 https://we.tl/r90ri2Buiy

File 2 https://we.tl/AUOq0PbJNu

File 3 https://we.tl/yyGEywfgJS

Leave all three files on your desktop, now with S&C running double click on file 001 and and it will stitch all the files together and leave you with a disk-image of Mavericks

DOUBLE thanks for that!

I can't find Sierra on the App Store either, and as that's the OS I'm running on this machine AND a VM, I can't work out where it's gone...

And, to Mike, your older computer would not be able to run it, even if you could install it somewhere.

Apparently this has happened before, but the decision was reversed:

I had gone to that link before, but was fooled into thinking that it was the update that was available for download:

The text on the page does refer to the installer, but it looked to me that it was the update. I have just downloaded the file, and it is the Sierra installer app.

Has this just recently appeared?
