Hi guys,

Just putting this out there to see if anybody had had any experience. My other half dropped her iPhone down the toilet the other day. We done the whole rice and airing cupboard thing, but it still didn't work. I opened it up and had a look, it was still swimming with water. Some components had actually gone rusty.

Anyway, making a claim on the house insurance. The guy said it's unlikely to be repaired, we're more like to get a cheque to the value of a 5S (she has a 16GB 5C, but as Apple no longer make the 16GB model, we get the value of the closest model, 5S). This is however, less the excess, which is £150. So, we're looking at around £300 to spend.

What we'd rather do is get her a new or near mint phone, because when her contract is up in October, she's not fussed about upgrading, she'd rather get her bill down.

So, what I'd like to ask is: does anybody have any experience buying an iPhone online from a reputable company. eBay is the obvious choice, but it doesn't sit well with me. Has anybody used a company, or know of a company thats trustworthy?

I've bought (and sold) iPhones on eBay without any problems. They've all been as described. I've looked at the completed listings, got a feel for the going price and bid in that sort of price range. Where I have had just one or two issues with sellers (other goods) eBay have stepped in and resolved the problem with their resolution process. I'm looking for a 5S's at the moment but the prices still seem high on eBay.

I got a mint condition 32gb 5S this year for my son on eBay. Choose your listing carefully and use some sniping software to place your only bid within the last few seconds (doesn't inflate the price before hand) and grab a bargain.

I recently purchased a second hand iPhone 4s from a High Street retailer in Bath. I'm very satisfied with it, it's clean and had plenty of safety checks. Cost was £189.

I was bit sad to see that I could have bought the same thing from several reputable eBay sources for 79 pounds less. I've purchased Apple lappies and iPods from eBay and have been pleased. Do a little research of the companies first and compare prices.

Thanks for the info. I'll bear him in mind in the future. We managed to secure a 5S from eBay in the end. It was sealed and on EE, seller was private and had 470+ positive and no neg/neutral feedback.

Easy and trustworthy sale-couldn't have asked for a better seller. Settled at £325 for a 16GB in White/Silver, which I think is quite a reasonable price.
