My wife just bought a new iPad Air 2. I made sure that she had an up to date backup from her old iPad then got the new iPad going via a Restore from the latest Backup of her old machine.
All went well except one of her Apps - one in which she has built up a large collection of recipes - has not arrived on the new iPad and 'er indoors is rightly upset!
How can I get her recipes into the new iPad please? They are still in the old iPad because, luckily, I have not yet wiped it for resale!

Was the old iPad on the same software version as the new one. If not try downloading via purchases. I have just done the same and some apps need the latest update in order to get the working.

It seems the app mentioned is now discontinued but worse still Apple's own Pages app did not come over in the restore. I tried to download it from the App Store and the circle completes its revolve then says "waiting". Then up comes a message that the app could not be downloaded.
Help!

You should be able to download the app in App Store ▸ Updates ▸ Purchased.
The App Store has been very flaky for me since iOS 10, especially with updates so it wouldn't surprise me if there are problems throughout the whole store.

Make sure you're running the latest iOS 10 patch - go to Settings > General > Software Update and see if one is available. Apple's apps, including Pages, were patched in the last week or so at the same time as an iOS patch and my guess is the updated apps need latest iOS 10 update installed before they'll download.
Just a thought

One last question: It seems that my wife's recipe app has been discontinued but her painstaking collection of recipes still reside inside it on her old iPad which I have not yet wiped clean.
Is there any way to get those recipes out of the discontinued app on her old iPad and over to her new iPad where she can store them in, say, Pages?

Can you not chose to email the data or export it, some apps allow you to do that. It would probably mean retyping or if copy paste is an option depending on the formatted data. I would think that an option would be available even send to print.

Have you tried to find the app on the new iPad in App Store ▸ Updates ▸ Purchased like I mentioned above?

It should be in the App Store (as said above) and maybe as an updated version that you should have access to.
