I have a 3 generation Apple TV, which I usually connect with the MBP, and having just upgraded the iPhone decided to download something on the phone and then connect with the TV. However when the Apple TV is activated nothing happens on the TV screen apart from the gear wheel rotating. What can I do to get it working? I've reset and updated the Apple TV. Looked in settings on the phone and cannot see anything that may be causing this not to work. Any one have a idea how to get it going.

I'm not sure what you mean. Two questions to clarify in my mind: - The Apple TV box should boot to its own menu. Are you saying it will not start? - Do you mean you AirPlay from the MBP and now want to AirPlay from the iPhone?

Another question for above - is this something that you regularly did before this problem manifested?
A thought - AirPlay and AirPlay 2 - .

Thanks for your reply. There is no problem with the Apple TV box, it works with a MBP with V 10.15.7 Catalina, and worked with all previous versions. I just wanted to play from the new iPhone SE. I can get everything on the Apple TV menu so that must be working. It's just the connection with iPhone.

Thanks for clarifying. When you open Control Centre on the SE and tap Screen Mirroring, do you see the Apple TV as an option?

Hi again, Yes Control Centre shows on the SE with ATV as an option. Tried again and was rewarded with a little success, TV now show SE home page, when opened the video, the TV screen went black but the sound played. Now since all this playing around I disconnected the SE and connected the MBP and that worked OK for a few minutes then started to stall, the MBP screen continued running but the TV stopped and then caught up so missed a little of the dialogue. I've never set any of the options, 'Mirror built in Display, Mirror Apple TV or Use as a separate display'. would any of these options stop the stalling?
