iTunes says I have 1.6Gb left on my iPhone. iPhone Settings>General>Storage and iClod Usage says 522MB.

Why the difference and which is correct?

Same with all my iOS devices, iTunes always says there's more free space than there actually is on the device itself. I don't think iTunes takes into account a certain amount of "breathing space" - for want of a better phrase - that the system might reserve for caches, virtual memory etc.

I know I've had warnings before that the system is low on memory, which I assume it means free storage, when there's around 1GB available according to iTunes at that time.

I tend to ignore what iTunes says and go by what it says on the iOS device instead.

What iTunes tells you is the storage space on the actual device.

iPhone Settings ▸ General ▸ Storage & iCloud usage shows TWO different stats.

The first one under 'STORAGE' is the space on the actual device, the amount used and the amount available.

The second one under 'ICLOUD' is the space left on your iCloud account. You get a paltry 5GB free with your iCloud account unless you purchase more. I imagine with only 522MB left you have just the 5GB free amount.

As for which is correct, as a rule I use the stats on the iPhone.
