My wife has nearly 500 pictures in her camera roll, which have all been synced to my MBP and then re-synced back to the iPhone in Photos.

Is there anyway to bulk/multi delete those pictures, or do they have to be done individually?

Easiest way is to scroll to the top of the photos list in the camera roll, tap 'Select' in the top right hand corner, then tap on the top left photo and swipe right along the row. This will select the top row. Before lifting your finger start scrolling down and you will then start selecting a row at a time. You can do as many rows as you like before lifting your finger. Then tap 'Delete' to move the photos to the 'Recently Deleted' folder.

To completely remove the photos, open the Recently Deleted folder, tap 'Select' in top right hand corner, then 'Delete All' in bottom left corner. Or just wait the 30-40 days for iPhone to delete them automatically for you.
