I use maps.me on my iOS devices, but have a question for Google Map users (which I might also like to use if...):
Do the downloaded and offline maps on the iOS device (still) disappear after one month? And, therefore, need to be constantly re-installed?

My initial reading - quite some time ago, admittedly - of Google Maps was clear: the maps were automatically deleted after thirty days.

Admittedly, I didn't know you could download the maps...
But, I can say I did recently use Google Maps on my iPhone to direct me around Ireland for 3 weeks and it did an excellent, accurate job. And didn't seem to use much data in the process, so not downloading them first wasn't really a loss.
Sorry, probably not a lot of help!

Look under the section Manage offline areas ▸ Update offline areas.

Thanks, Jonah.
Do you use Maps, and does the "automatic" updating of offline maps work, in your (anyone else's) experience?

For directions, I use a combination of a Garmin sat nav, the TomTom app*, Apple Maps and Google Maps. I have never used the offline maps option in Google Maps.

*soon to be deleted from my iPhone due to TomTom stopping supporting the app from September. They have moved to a subscription-based app now called TomTom Go which I am not downloading or subscribing to. I already paid £50 for the app I have installed so I'm not giving them any more money.

Thanks for that.

My use of downloaded/offline maps for my phone is limited to walking. When visiting places with which I am unfamiliar, I use such maps. I even use it within my own city - when I cannot recall the location of a particular street or place.
I've been using maps.me - which is excellent. I'll also be giving Google Maps a go.

I use a dedicated Garmin sat-nav for driving.

Google Maps has always worked ok for me for walking directions. Always used the cellular connection which hasn't hampered it in any way.
