When an iMessage arrives, I get the default sound on my iPhone, MBP and Watch (with a tap). I get appropriate screen Notifications. Fine.
When a Mail item turns up, I get the default note on the iPhone and MBP but b. all on the Watch. As far as I can see, it is set up correctly (I have searched elsewhere and tried the "solutions"). It seems I am not alone. Apple's help is sparse. . My settings are to mirror the iPhone but I have tried custom. If it works for iMessage, why not for Mail?
When I start Mail on the Watch, I get a "waiting to sync" message before the folders are updated. This makes me think that mail isn't being pushed/sync'd out automatically to the Watch, but I can't (so far) find out where that is instigated.
Any advice or comments on your experience gratefully received.

OK, having done all the settings yesterday without success then given up and asked for help today, I just had an email through that, for no known reason, set off the Watch. I'll see how it goes. It may give up again.

I think Apple are having issues with notifications at the moment. I am getting iMessages and emails but not receiving notifications at times and then getting them at other times. Doesn't matter whether its on iPhone or Watch. It's random but I know other people are having the same issue.

I've had my Watch a little over a year now. I don't think I've ever had Mail notifications on my Watch, even though Notifications>Mail is set to "Mirror my iPhone." I've got used to the fact. In a way, I'm content to have a need to check my phone for my Mail – it's a surprise waiting for me.

I did some more playing today. On the iPhone, Settings > Notifications > Mail > Account, under Alert Style - if I have None (to avoid the banner but get the ding) then the Watch ignores things. If I have it on Banners then the Watch reacts. I've not tried Alerts.
I really only check email on my MBPr as email isn't ever urgent and important. I put it on the iPhone (and thence Watch) because I went to my daughter's wedding a the beginning of the month. It was a "just in case" measure but I've not turned it off yet.
