Our iPad Air, after the latest update randomly went to a black screen several times. Having looked at what others tried to do to resolve, bit the bullet and went to a total reset. Was prepared to restore everything manually, but when it restarted it asked for my iPhone SE to be placed next to it and it automatically restored everything from the phone.
This seemed to be an undocumented feature as no where is there any reference to doing this.
It would be useful to do this when setting up a new iPad.
BTW the reset cured the random black screen.

This is a standard method for getting one's stuff from an existing iOS device onto a new one.

I've had this happen once or twice and I normally blame the app in question. I think pressing the Home button cured the black screen?
