Hi all - a quick question. The iPad Pro with the pencil has caught my eye as a possible replacement for my Early 2015 MacBook.

I use my MacBook for a little commercial photo editing (once or twice a week) and for general use - internet, etc. It suits my needs perfectly. I have a desktop iMac for the bulk of my work.

I'm wondering if anyone here uses the iPad Pro and pencil with Lightroom CC for photo editing. I mostly use Lightroom Classic but do dip into Lightroom CC - mostly to keep up to date with its progress as an editing platform. It now seems to be at a stage where I think it could be a viable alternative for some of my work.

So, do you shoot and use Lightroom CC on the iPad and view it as a viable alternative for commercial work?

Won’t use Adobe subscription products because they are too expensive so I use Affinity Photo for iPad instead if I need to process RAW files when I don’t have my MacBook Pro. It’s only occasional use as I usually take my MacBook Pro with me.

Affinity Photo for iPad costs £20, no subscription and updates are free of charge.

I'd underline what Jonah said - Affinity Photo was rewritten from the bottom up for iPad. By the way, the pencil works just as well with the iPad Air.

Thanks all. For the moment Lightroom is deeply embedded in my workflow. I use it to sync images across all platforms - iMac, MacBook, web and Android phone. At €120 per year, I think it's quite good value for commercial shooters.

I'm sure Affinity Photo is great but it does not have a dam - this is vital when dealing with 1000's of images. I don't want to introduce a new bit of software into the workflow.

I was just wondering if anyone uses Lightroom on iPad as a viable alternative in a commercial setting.

Couldn't agree with you more Jonah and MacBiter, all far too expensive. In the old days when you needed Photoshop, QuarkXpress and InDesign to make print work (DTP) there was no competition so they ruled the waves (see dam). You had to work for a print company to make it a viable app to use. Now thanks to people like Affinity, Pixelmator Pro there are affordable options. Affinity have just updated to 1.8.1. I have Lightroom on my iPad Pro but very rarely use it. BTW jer1ch0 what's a dam? Maybe LR uses a lot of water eh? LOL.

:-) - No, not a water reference. DAM - Digital Asset Management. Just a way to organise, catalogue, tag, etc a library of photos so Lightroom organises all my images and also allows me to edit them.
