It works for me. It points roughly north and maintains direction as I rotate the 11. I say "roughly" as where I am in my house, I'm between two long RSJs which interfere a little.

Well, it's a brick for me.
What is "the 11" that you rotate? And, just for the heck of it, what is an RSJ?

I was just going to say to reboot the device. I found it has helped with my iPhone after installed iOS14.
RSJ = reinforced steel joist

Oh sorry, I missed the RSJ query. Thanks Jonah. Two ruddy great steel beams affect compasses and wifi signals so they also determined how I set the wifi mesh units.

Shut down and rebooted my 11. Apart from that little thingie appearing and disappearing with taps, nothing happens. If it were not for that change in the interface, I would say that the app is unresponsive. It is not showing direction; it is a static screen.

Something to check:
Settings Privacy Location Services With Location Services turned ON, scroll for System Services Enable Compass Calibration
Maybe not, but worth checking. As it happens, this is OFF on mine but flipping switches can sometimes kick things into life.

@ loughor, BINGO. Thanks. It seems to have needed calibration.

I mean, really: Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Compass Calibration
It would have needed a cold day in Wales before I ever discovered that.

Mae wedi bod yn ddiwrnod eithaf cynnes heddiw.
Amser am ychydig o beintiau o gwrw, dwi'n meddwi.
Here's the gist: it has been warm today. Time for a few beers.
I wish I could speak Welsh more than the odd snippet. I cheated and used the MS Translate app which works with iPadOS/iOS 14: keeping things on topic.
