I have a G4 PB (the rather lovely 15" variety - one of the last series, I think?) running 10.5.8 - although a bit slow to start, it runs everything well in its 1GB RAM (upgradeable to 2GB I think?). Safari is extremely leisurely, but everything else seems quite reasonable.
Somewhere I also have a PB3400 but haven't started it in years - the screen had dimmed quite noticeably, but it ran OS 9.1 quite nippily.
I occasionally run System 7.5 in the Basilisk emulator on my current iMac, but much more often I run OS 8.6 in Sheepshaver, mostly to play old games that have died the death in OS X. Rusty - you could try Sheepshaver for Close Combat, assuming it would run in OS 8 or OS 9.0.4?

SheepShaver... Interesting How safe is this to run? I've got an original OS9 disc somewhere along with the Close Combat disc. I've downloaded the zip of SS but just a bit hesitant to click on it...

I didn't take the poll since I can't really claim to *use* OS9; the iMac G3 400 DV/SE has been fired up a couple of times over several years just to confirm it still works... However, I found this which anyone interested in pre-Intel machines might find as fascinating as I did. Can't recall where I came across the link - might even have been on this forum

There's no poll Highmac ...but that is a nifty site. There are many more great old Mac OS sites still out there, this is a very informative one with loads of links to other pages:

I don't use it very often, but I do keep a G4 iMac running Tiger so that I can access Classic apps. This iMac will also boot into OS 9.

Yes, if it broke, but there is no need for it now.
