Today is the Chinese new year of Tet. It also reminds me that when I was in Vietnam in 1968 we were stationed in a place called Phu-Bai which was a few miles from the imperial city of Hue. Seabees are the construction arm of the Marines. We also train with the Marines and provide our own security. On TET the North Vietnanese marched into the city of Hue and had address's and names of the people who worked for their government or for the U.S.. They shot and killed those people and it was up to the U.S. to fight and remove the VC from Hue. We were asked to rebuild bridges while the fighting was going on and we did. But I will tell you I was scared as the mortars etc. were landing right near us and of course I was guarding the builders. One person of our group was wounded and was airlifted. After TET and things were winding down, they found a pit where the VC buried the people that they shot and killed. TET was a failure for the North Vietnamese. Just a little history.
