Any ideas why the forum has a random blank collum down te left of the browser window?

I'm guessing that only happens when a large image has been posted in the forum thread that is stretching the forum width.

Your screenshot is a prime example, too wide for the default forum width and there is no limit on image sizes.

All other threads except this one are centralised here, and fine. Using a 1680 x 1050 15 inch monitor. As Darren says could just be because some photos are too wide for the forum width.

I see the white band on a 1280x1024 screen. Yes its not widescreen but I do have two monitors :D

I'm viewing on a 1680x1050 widescreen monitor and at full screen I get this:

to lose the white gap I have to do this but then lose 1/2 of the tread too:
