Still use it... for a few projects, for old times sake.

The lovely Wallstreet Powerbook that Ramaprem donated has after many adventures, now passed away.

Stripped it down may times and offered many best wishes to it but...

So, I picked up an equally lovely G4 - 1.67Ghz with 2GB Ram - And 'found' an install of MacOSX10.4.11

I did try a custom build that some guys had constructed but it failed at some point, so installed Tiger and bingo!

I have my nifty Black and White Windows a la, Platinum look.

Anyone else still fire up any old kit?

I fired up a Bondi blue iMac DV400 the other week. Running Mac OS 9.2. Square screen and CRT was a bit strange after so many years of widescreen LCD.

So, that's two HDD's - One for each OS... ?

Looking at Apples OS9 pages, Classic required 10.4 or lower.

Which was the reason I choose it.

It was dual boot on one disc. It has 2 HDDs now. It came originally with a single 80GB drive with OS9 pre-installed and OSX10.0 and applications on 4 install discs. Didn't really use OS9 but did use some apps under classic.
I fitted an additional 120GB drive later and did a clean install of 10.4. 10.4 is the latest OS it is supposed to run as 10.5 requires minimum of 867MHz processor. Read of a terminal hack to trick the 10.5 installer into thinking it has a different processor. 10.5 runs fine on it.
Came with no airport or bluetooth so fitted a PCI card for wifi some time later.

It only gets a bit of light office work these days. Only trouble I've had with it has been the PSU, it's on it's third one. I paid for the first replacement to be supplied and fitted. The current one was sourced on ebay and fitted my self.

My old iBook 1.33ghz still works fine. Battery doesn't last too long mind! I might try and boot the old G5 by my feet again some day too. (Can't be bothered to move it anywhere else!)

Sounds like a project - What OS is currently on the G5?

A h ha. It's OS 10.4.11 Whatever that is in Cat terms? I just booted it and it seems I stripped it down to bare essentials. Now I think of it I took the 1Tb drive out and used it in a NAS and left it with just a 150Gb HD. But it booted quickly and seems to run ok...

That's Tiger - So if you have an OS9 System Folder handy, you can run OS9 in Classic Mode.

Loads of Tiger apps out there - My Mac is a PPC, which has a seriously keen user base crazily enough.

Yes I used OS9 to run my old favourite game 'Close Combat'. Wish I could run it on Intel. I guess I could run Windows version in Windows on Parallels which I have on my MacMini... Also I used to use Nvo to do my website but that doesn't run on Intel either! Oh well :|
