This is a young female orangutan at the that I visited. There are a lot of them there and they all have tattoos so that they can be easily identified. This was feeding time, so all the tourists were gathering to watch, I have a number of photos but that's the one I chose since it is at least not too blurry. They are rescued and fed and encouraged in gradual degrees to venture further out into feeding stations further into the jungle so that they will eventually return of their own choice. There is a big problem with their habitat disappearing due to extensive palm oil plantations and logging and capture of young ones by the people to serve as pets.
I stayed one night at the and we did a night walk into the forest, and a river cruise in the daytime. I didn't do it via TripAdvisor! It was all adhoc via the tourist office at Kota Kinabalu. There was another (very wet) river trip into the Beaufort wetlands. Plus some scuba-diving in very warm water from a small island off Kota Kinabalu.
Dinner at the Sepilok cafeteria! Very nice too.
