Well... I have read the entire thread, and the different views have not changed my own opinion: remain.
I'm in Belgium, Europe, where I have lived ever since I was nine years old (and I'll be turning 69 in about six weeks from now). I have never applied for naturalization, and always said I would naturalize (become a Belgian), on my death bed, so that the rest could say: "Another Belgian dead!"
Just kidding, my nationality is as much a part of me as my name, and I have never really seen a reason to change that.
Meanwhile 'citizens of the EU' have voting rights in Belgium, be it only for the local municipality and for Europe (but there I can only elect Belgian politicians!); not for the regional (we have different regions in Belgium like Flanders and Wallonia) or national (Belgian) elections.
Will I keep my voting rights after 29 March? I have no idea, but that might be a reason to apply for naturalization.
I'm currently wondering whether I should have my British passport renewed for another ten years. So much money and will I ever need it again...

I have been following all Brexit discussions but not very closely, as expats were never involved in the discussions or had a chance to vote. I was astonished to hear that the Leavers won, but that those who voted to Leave were not the youngest voters; quite a few of the Leavers will die of old age within the next ten years, while the youth, who voted to remain, has to deal with a -in my opinion- disastrous decision.

That's all I can say right now. I'll try to pop in a bit more often.

Just as a follow up to the post from Les. The difference here in France is that unlike Les, UK expats here can't vote in anything. No local or general elections. The vote to remain or leave never entered my head in 2016 as we knew we had no voice. Unless you are fluent in French and you have to undergo a written and oral test and pass it to attain French nationality. Even now I'm split my heart (for UK) says leave but my head (as I live in Europe) says remain. I think leaving the EU for UK is going to be great for the country, eventually, that's if it ever happens!!!!!!

For us in Europe it's going to me a nightmare with all the paperwork and hoop jumping we have to do. For me personally my french is pretty good and we fill all the criterion for our Carte de Sejour (residency card) but we will still have to renew it every ten years. We have applied to our local (130 kms away) Prefecture for a meeting for our Cartes . . . . March 2020 is when they will see us.

As with the whole of UK and Europe we are heartily fed up to our back teeth of hearing the word Brexit. The silly sods that are supposed to be sorting it out in the HofP (MP's) don't fill me with any great expectations until they stop behaving like unruly school children. I hope either way they get it right and let us all get on with our lives and return to normality. Unlike Les we have to renew our passport this year (that will be interesting) though we have no desire to to go back to UK (last time was 2014 to sell our motorhome), we have family still there and god forbid nothing happens to them we might have to go in an emergency.

Can I ask if anyone know what this “peoples vote” that everyone is talking about, is ? I thought the people got to vote at the referendum.

Rumor is... over here in the USA is that the people got to vote for President.

The People’s Vote is a vote on whether to accept the withdrawal deal or to stay in the EU on the terms we have at present.

You can vote more than once on an issue. After all, there has been more than one general election.

Yeah but if you vote in a general election you have to let that result stand before you have another one. You don’t say oh dear the Tory’s won let’s have another election.


Looks to me like the remainders will want a people’s vote till they get a result they want. If there is another referendum and we vote to stay. Can we have another vote if people don’t like that.
