I'll have a go later, thanks. Yesterday I tried a Joe Walsh album. Having no idea of which to pick, I went for Analog Man. He can't spell but can compose ;) I was OK. Not something I'd buy or go back to but didn't get cut short. I'm sure he has some good albums outside of The Eagles. This is why I asked for a recommendation. If I pick one I may get put off trying more. I'm sure we have different taste in music but generally, good is good. It just now dawned on me as I typed, I could look at discographies and pick the biggest sellers. OK Computer was a UK No1, so there you go.

How about early Talking Heads? I kind of fell out of love with them when they released Remain In Light, everybody else says it's brilliant, I didn't like it enough. I also bought Fear Of Music, which is good but rather more avant-garde, influenced a lot by Eno who was their producer for that. Psycho Killer is rubbish though, it's tedious.

But before that there was More Songs About Buildings And Food and before that Talking Heads 77 - both great albums. You could try either of those if you like art rock. It's a specific genre of music and it's not something you could fit Joe Walsh into. It's all a matter of taste really. If you like Roxy music (the best one, RM the first) then you might like those two, although they are nothing like Roxy Music!

I have a Greatest Hits of theirs - - and that is probably enough.

I should sample more of the unheard MP3s I have.

I have a stack of vinyl and CDs, which my daughter may take when I croak as she is the musician. I'm not going to worry about it. It won't be my problem. All the CDs ripped and uploaded to Apple via their Music. They don't have some of the vinyl stuff. Probably licensing issues as they do have some old obscure stuff I bought back in the day. I also seem to have some files which I acquired. A mixture of what I consider rubbish, good stuff and loads never listed to. I do sometimes pick something only to decide it is generic, bland or not for me.

Eric Burdon: Rock 'n' Roll Animal - on tonight at 9:30, BBC Four for those interested. I'll be recording it

Remade links for Talking Heads albums one and two for those interested!

TH 77 is missing the first track, Uh-oh Love Comes to Town.
Also sans Psychokiller, available at all good music stores near you and YouTube ad-nauseam.

Well, if Joe Walsh doesn't cut the mustard, then perhaps Nils Lofgren will.

Forgive me for interrupting the youngsters, but my thanks to Defcom for giving the link. Learnt quite a lot.

Always thought the Rock Island Line was the name of the track cycled, didn’t realise it was a complete network with branches going everywhere.

Had no idea Ken Colyer served time in the States for playing in a black band, nor that the rest of his band in the UK voted him out. Must’ve made the Traditional Jazz concert at the Royal Festival Hall in 1954 an interesting evening with Ken Colyer’s band opening the concert and Barber’s opening the second half, including Donegan on banjo.

Colyer’s band toured Denmark in 1953 including Barber and Donegan, I’ve an EP (45rpm) with four of their tunes.

1953/4 was my first experience of what, to my dear Christian parents, was the devil’s music. Pubs etc., were not allowed but close to my Grammar School was a pub, where once a week the Wood Green Jazz Club rehearsed in a back room at lunch time. I sat on the pavement outside. And probably got a detention or lines.

Somehow I managed to get a record player and started a collection, favourite of many was the Benny Goodman’s Carnegie Hall 1938 concert.

Now then, in the world of Folk Music, Donegan is not quite revered. Some believe he took old folk songs, jazzed them up a bit and recorded them as his own - plus the royalties.

Did any of you other older gits read the Molesworth books back in the day?

For those who have no idea what I'm on about ->

It was a thing for my siblings and me. My daughter too. We still use the same spelling standards when we type in Skype. Some wag or wags have Twitter character profiles. I don't, but am aware of them.

”…but all welcome”
Thanks for the invitation.

From early-October until mid-December 2018, the Boss did a Broadway show:
"Springsteen on Broadway". It is 2.5 hours long.

It is special; It is very special.
It is magic. It is a treasure. It is transcendent.
(I enjoyed it.)

Try to get to see it. I just watched it this night.

That has been on my "watch sometime" list for a while. It is on Netflix but 2½ hours feels a bit long for one session. I expect it would pass quickly.
