This dump of a town is two miles inside the M25, therefore regarded as 'London' and priced accordingly, although there are one or two renegade boozers and WMCs. I can get Deuchars or London Pride for £2.70 in the Rose & Crown.

My local WMC is great for a good pint of reasonably priced ale. Tetley's Cask plus a guest ale (and its always a goodun!) usually cost no more than £2 each.

I love Root Beer (the soft drink variety), but can only seem to find it in places like Selfridges etc. Anyone know of any supermarkets that sell it?

I saw some root beer in Waitrose two years ago, Australian made, called Bundaberg. I'm guessing they still sell it.
At lunch I visited a chavhole and had a few pints of 3.6% Marstons EPA, which I think I've mentioned before and at £1.69 a pint a nice hoppy quaffing ale. At that price and that strength I'd happily drink it all night long. Shame the venue is unsuitable, so I won't.

I had some really nice Ginger Beer this summer, can't remember what it was called though. Tasted just like really nice proper ginger beer, but was 4.8% ABV IIRC. mmmmmmmm

Although I may have to use them sometimes, I treat gastropubs with disdain. Dunno how many of us there are but I know very well I'm not the only one who wants a pub to be a pub. I feel nostalgic for curly sarnies in a glass case on the bar, a dartboard, dominoes, ale and please, I can do without the reams of giant greasy, yukky menus sucking up table space. None of which has anything to do with "What are you drinking"!

Traitor!
I ended up drinking Mac's Cask last night. I do wish McMullens would stop using toasted malt or whatever it is, the way they brew it only succeeds in making all their ales taste heavy, like drinking a loaf of bread. The ratio of one hop to a pint doesn't really work either.
