Thanks. Did have a look myself but always weary of "new genuine Apple" stuff on ebay at reduced prices when I've been stung in the past with a replacement battery under that banner which was obviously a rip-off. Just wondering if there is any legit second hand chargers available from Apple enthusiasts that I can trust.

I have also used TheBookyard from it's very early start and have had nothing better than excellent superb service. One other thing to watch for it to make sure that you correctly identify your part as there are lots of variations. Although not a problem as the customer service is beyond excellent just how it should be.

Thanks - didn't know about this company. Currently all applicable chargers for my Macbook are out of stock but I'll keep an eye for when there is stock available. Thanks again for the link to this very useful website/company!

Actually, a 45 watt one probably would be okay. I think they are never running at maximum output, 60W will be the worst possible case scenario and all the happens is that it might take a little longer to charge up.
I'm not suggesting you actually look for 45 watt one but if it's the only thing you can find, I'm sure it'd work.

A 45 watt charger would charge the battery while the laptop is sleeping or turned off but probably not charge while it was being used just reduce (or stop) the rate of discharge. The 45 watt charger would run very hot due to running at max output. 85 watt charger will do no harm as the charge controller in the laptop will only take what it needs.
