Well after about 22 eBay messages to and fro between me and the buyer and three contacts with eBay chat, in two of which the people did not give fully accurate information - we finally managed to get the money into my PayPal account. The problem was it was listed as a UK sale and the guy bidding on it lives in Bucharest and he had a Romanian address registered. He also has a UK address - so I am sending it to Luton as he requested. But my, how many hurdles eBay put up, it is absolutely astounding. Yes, okay they want to protect people against rogues and charlatans but they also make it bloody difficult to get things done. Not only that but eBay take 10% believe it or not, (I thought it used to be 5%, didn't it?) and then PayPal take 3.4% +20p!! That is (just a little) more than estate agents take!
Also they make it nearly impossible to give exchange of email addresses now. I tried to disguise my email address with funny characters but it kept rejecting the message saying that there was an email address in it and I shouldn't put it in there. In the end I had to take an image of it and send the picture! Plus a note to eBay moderators that I'm only giving him my email so that I can give him tracking information - dammit!
I'm going to try and remove PayPal as an option from future sales, 10% take is bad enough let alone the PayPal one, if I can get them to make direct bank transfers that would be better, especially if it's a big item.
I've just discovered that PayPal charged me 4.4% not 3.4% +20p. Reading the small print it's because there was a money transaction from Romania to the UK which I of course have paid for as well.

eBay isn't a good place for sellers now, I recently sold some furniture for a family member for £420, ended paying about £45 in fees. eBay used to have a cap on the 10% fee, up to £40. At some point they removed that without me noticing, caught me out good and proper.
I only sell small items on eBay now, it's not worth the fees they charge. There are better places to sell.
BTW, you can provide the tracking number in PayPal.

I have a similar MBP (minus the SSD and extra 2Gb of RAM) and Mac2Sell said it was worth £240. Mac4Cash would offer me £200. You got a good price for yours I think.

Yes, I was surprised at the price too. I think it was a good idea to put the SSD back in it. I had taken it out and replaced it with the optical drive but then figured an SSD Fusion Drive might be more attractive!
Mind you, with the extra 4 GB PC2 memory stick and 64 GB SSD, there's an extra hundred pounds worth of kit in there above standard.
Now I have a spare SuperDrive for sale too, which I guess I will put on eBay unless I can think of a better plan ...
