I hear lots of complaints about BT.
Basicallly they are ALL rubbish, just different levels of rubbishness for each person.

It's taken TalkTalk Business 10 working days to give me a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) so I can move to BT. They are legally obliged to give a MAC within 5 working days, only after I made a fuss on Twitter did I get the code sent to me, the multiple calls to customer service didn't seem to make any difference at all, different excuses one after another. Still, got it now and I'm moving to BT because my exchange is tiny and only BT have equipment there, so Wholesale customers will only get a maximum of 1.5Mbps down (if you're lucky) instead of the 8Mbps I've had in the past. Time will tell...

Well, I have to say that I'm finding TalkTalk pretty good so far. Got the notification of my transfer date from Virgin saying that I'd be paying TT £26 a month for the same deal that I had with Virgin: standard BB, line rental and 24/7 free calls. That compared with £21 that I was paying Virgin. Called TT direct and got it down to £19 with half price line rental for 12 months. The changeover went without any problems, but my download speed was only around 1.6M, compared with the 2.5 I was getting with Virgin. TT's website says that they monitor it and "tweak" it where required. Anyway, next day I log in to my account and a message comes up to say that my download speed is low, so go and reboot the router. Did that and it improved to just over 2M. It dropped about over the next couple of days, but is now around 2.3-2.5M. Their website is far better than Virgin's, with more information and facilities and without the "Ooops, there seems to be problem with this page" messages that I was always getting from Virgin. So, it's a thumbs up from me so far.

I did read that right didn't I... 2.5mb. Is that all you are getting? I'm not sure you can actually class that as broadband.

Yes, that's right. I'm just over 3 miles from the exchange.

2.5Mbps over 3 miles isn't bad really. I'm 0.9km form the exchange at work at can get 7.5Mbps on a good day. Much more distance than that, and the speed will drop.

It's the max that BT reckons I'll get, and to be honest, it meets my needs 95% of the time as I don't use things like Netflix etc.

Dave, talktalk are doing some great deals on sim only, but you need to be a customer to qualify. I got one for my mum just before they canceled, so she still gets 700 mins, 3000 text and 2gb data for £7.50.
Gary.

Yes, had a salesperson on the phone last night about that. Might give it some thought.
